But there are those who have managed to break this wall of “no words”: in 2017, when Leon was only one year old, his parents Hayley and Karsten brought home Fern, a puppy of only two. month: “It was love at first sight. This little hairy was able to do something that adults and doctors had not been able to do: “They became inseparable from the first moment – says the mother -. Leon’s first interactions weren’t with us, or with other humans, but with Fern. Fern is a female Cocker Spaniel, so naughty when she is responsible for her boyfriend: she loves to have fun and play with him, but also to stand in front of the stairs when Leon is in danger of falling, acting as a cushion on the floor to prevent him from banging his head or calm him down when he has seizures.
Leon’s parents have also created a Facebook page, “Ensemble tout est pawsible” (that is to say “Together everything is possible”, the English word “possible” has been replaced by “pawsible” and “patte” means “patte”), through which they want to share their experience and the importance that a dog can have in the life of a child with autism: “I remember how Leon was before: he was sadly locked in his world, he didn’t did not speak, he did not interact, the seizures were terrible, once he risked choking because he had tried to swallow a shard from his bed – says his mother -.
