The Montez family received a call, a call they had already given up hope of ever receiving. Her dog, who disappeared in 2009, was found and rescued 7 years later. Now that they have found their dog, they have discovered that he has never been alone on the street.
In mid-2009, Corky, the Montez family dog, left home and never returned.
It turns out that Corky was taken to the Humane Society of North Texas after being picked up on that road, and thanks to a microchip, rescue teams were able to locate his loved ones.
A family reunited with their dog after almost seven years
Montez told ABC News:
“We looked for Corky for about six months before we moved, and we knew he had a microchip and he had a collar, so we were hoping that one day he would come home. So we were very excited” , said Kimberly Montez.
โWe were in shock when the news reached us,โ Jimmy Montez said. “I just couldn’t believe it.”
The family immediately rushed to the shelter to find their lost pet, only to find that despite losing Corky, he was not alone.
Another small dog had been rescued with him, a small one-eyed dog named Captain. On the street, they had been friends with each other, always together.
They found their dog after 7 years and now Corky and Captain are happy
โOur hearts melted. As soon as they told us they got together, they knew they had to stick together,โ Jimmy said. So instead of just bringing home their dog that day, they took two.
“Every time the Captain leaves, Corky is there with him,” Jimmy said. “I think Corky had helped him on the street because he was missing an eye. He always lets him eat first and always naps together. Corky takes care of him,” he added.
If Corky hadn’t been microchipped years ago, he probably wouldn’t have been reunited with his much-missed family.
“In our opinion, it’s truly a miracle that we got to meet him,” Jimmy said. “And we’re honored and proud to be able to give Captain a home as well. Their little tails won’t stop wagging.”
