A moving story has been recorded at an animal shelter in Ontario (Canada) where an elderly dog went for a walk for the first time after spending more than seven years waiting to be adopted.
The protagonist of this story is Leroy, a crossbreed sheepdog who, at the age of 12, has failed to find a family that welcomes him and gives him a new chance to live.
Thus, a group of volunteers from the Dog Tales Rescue shelter decided to give this dog an unforgettable experience.
These people have been implementing a strategy for some time so that dogs can “break free” from the confinement in which they live in these shelters.

It all started when someone offered a cabin facing the sea to the staff so they could rest and walk a few dogs.
Volunteer Stephanie Munro explained to The Dodo portal that given this opportunity, they decided to take Leroy for a walk and her reaction was completely emotional as she felt completely free.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to give our dogs a break and see what they really look like in a family environment. It was really extraordinary and moving to be able to see our dogs in this way,” said Munro.
The young woman got Leroy into a vehicle to start the trip and give this dog this unforgettable experience; since he managed to enjoy the scenery and a special meal for the first time in this cozy cabin.
The elderly dog’s joy was evident with some photos and videos the volunteer took of him; in which he is seen sniffling, gazing at the scenery, and sleeping for the first time in many years in a comfortable bed.
“Leroy is quite laid back. He enjoys the occasional search game. Food is also one of his favorite things… One of his favorite things is to give the paw; as he enthusiastically gives,” Munro said.
In this way, this dog spent an unforgettable weekend but unfortunately he had to return to the shelter where he has lived for more than 7 years.
Finally, Leroy’s story has gone viral and that’s why we hope someone decides to adopt him to give him all the love he hasn’t had for much of his life.
