The macabre discovery was made by inspectors from the Toruล Society for the Protection of Animal Rights. The creatures that were in the care of the “Toruลska Cat Guard” foundation and that were supposed to be safe here, suffered enormous suffering and cruelty. 37 dead animals were found on the site. They were piled up in corners and hidden in boxes. The intervention was not the easiest. After the shocking decision of the district veterinarian, the chairman of TTOPZ filed a report with the prosecutor’s office.
The foundation that was supposed to protect animals was making them suffer terribly
Animals taken in by foundations and associations that help homeless and abandoned animals should be given special help and protection. As a society, we rely on people who work with animals to take care of their animals and try to be kind to them, especially when the poor creatures have already been injured by irresponsible owners. This incident shows how much inspectors and the police still have to do in our country to protect the lives of innocent animals.
Terrifying events took place on March 18 in Toruล. On Gagarina Street, in a complex of pavilions, there was a “shelter” run by the owner of the “Toruล Cat Guard” foundation. It was there that an intervention was carried out following reports from local residents and employees of service salons. During the intervention, animals in need of help were discovered. Unfortunately, 37 of them did not survive and could not be rescued.
This was not the first report concerning the foundation. A shocking decision by the district veterinarian
The owner of the foundation was already known to the TTOPZ inspectors. The woman initially ran a “shelter” in one of the apartments in Bydgoskie Przedmieลcie. From there, she moved to a gazebo in the allotment gardens. The owners of the plots, concerned about the fate of the animals, reported the case to the police, which led to a new approach. Since September last year, the woman had been bringing animals to the pavilions on Gagarin Street in Toruล. However, TTOPZ inspectors have so far found no evidence of any harm to the animals.
There were many animals in the small rooms of the pavilion. The owner of the foundation kept homeless cats, dogs and even laboratory rats there. According to his social networks, the animals were placed in good homes for adoption.
The entire intervention lasted several hours and, due to the actions of the police and the decision of the district veterinarian, it stretched over two days. On Monday, the owner of the foundation allowed only one policewoman to enter the premises. The rest of the officers blocked the entrance and prevented Piotr Korpal, the chairman of TTOPZ, from carrying out the inspection he was entitled to. District veterinarian Violetta Hermann-Krupiลska also arrived at the scene and managed to enter. After she left, she announced that the intervention could be postponed because, in her opinion, the animals were in good shape, had food and water, even though they were living in poor conditions. Piotr Korpal could not believe the doctor’s words. The smell of carrion that persisted every time the door was opened was sufficient reason to intervene. After the veterinarian’s statement, despite the protests of the TTOPZ chairman, the police refrained from further action.
Not all animals survived to be rescued
The terrified chairman of the TTPOZ could not leave the animals in need. He returned with the police to the same place on Tuesday after 1 p.m. This time, the basis for the intervention was the decision of the Toruล chairman to temporarily take the animals, taken immediately after the request submitted by Chairman Korpal.
Despite the calls of the police, the owner of the foundation did not open the door. Neither the call of the psychologist called to the scene nor the requests of the firefighters helped. The officers had to intervene and broke down the door with specialized equipment. When the owner of the foundation screamed, the police officers and employees of the animal shelter at ul. Przybyszewski. They quickly began to transport cats and dogs that needed help into their car. There were a total of 12 cats and 9 dogs inside, including 5 puppies. After securing the live animals, the employees informed the TTOPZ chairman that there were dead animals in varying degrees of decomposition inside.
Although the stench in the room made the work difficult, the police and inspectors made a horrific discovery, which they carefully photographed. They found a total of 36 dead cats and one dog.
It is possible that other animals need help. The case has been reported to the prosecutor’s office
The corpses of dead animals were piled up in the corners of the room and stored in cardboard boxes. Moments after the discovery of the horrific crime, the owner of the foundation, screaming constantly, was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The foundation’s headquarters was secured by police technicians and hermetically sealed. The case will end in court. Until the case is solved, this is one of the most important pieces of evidence of a horrific act.
The president of TTOPZ suspects that there were many more animals โin the careโ of the foundation on Tuesday morning, before the intervention. However, they were taken away by the owner. He said he will not rest until he finds out where they are.
