A little three-legged kitten was given a second chance at life and surprised all her caregivers with the incredible strength and resilience she has to cope with all her problems.
The adorable kitten was found in a family’s yard, she was alone and was only about 6-7 days old. The worst part was that part of one of his back legs was missing, because he had an injury that had probably been made during his birth.
A kind-hearted person found the kitten and did not hesitate to ask for help online, as she was in urgent need of medical attention.
A three-legged kitten overcomes all obstacles
Dannielle Southon, founder of Southon Rescue, saw the message and didn’t hesitate to answer the call, so she picked her up and took her in without thinking.
The woman said to Love Meow:
“He had a twisted injury to his leg, probably caused by a coiled umbilical cord. “His bone was exposed and he was suffering from a terrible infection.”
So, Dannielle cleaned the wound, gave him food, medicine, then wrapped the stump to help it heal.
The kitten was called Jack, because at first everyone thought it was a kitten, but then they realized the truth, however, they decided to keep the name. Soon, Jack proved to be a kitten with a very healthy appetite and discovered his purring machine, so he began demanding his meals.
Dannielle added:
“After three and a half days of antibiotics, pain control and cleanings, Jack’s leg looked much better.”
The swelling went down considerably, and his little stump was functioning very well, everything was going as his caregivers hoped. Besides, the little girl was determined to become a young and beautiful cat, so she wouldn’t let anything stop her.
She ate all her food until not a drop was left and moved on all three legs, practicing her way of walking like a champion every day. Every time someone touched her, she fired up her little purring motor, soaking up all the love she could get.
Over the next few weeks, Jack continued to make giant strides, surprising his foster mother and the veterinarian with his incredible progress.
At just five weeks old, Jack was walking perfectly on three legs, playing and trying to climb every obstacle that came his way.
Dannielle said:
“Once the injury healed, it was obvious he would be fine.”
One day he even saw other kittens running around the room and immediately wanted to do the same thing as them and followed them around the house.
With his stump completely healed, Jack’s mother is simply working on his balance and giving him enough confidence to walk on one hind leg. But he is doing really well, even an orthopedic veterinarian said after a consultation that there was a good chance his future would be bright.
Dannielle commented:
“This girl seriously surprises me every day with her tenacity and resilience since she arrived.”
Jack is usually out for mischief and his energetic personality means his appetite grows and he needs to be fed very frequently. Today, Jack has grown into a young and playful cat, enjoying the company of other kittens and trying to keep up with them in everything.
Dannielle added:
“Being on a tripod doesn’t slow her down at all. “He’s still climbing on the couch, chairs and everything.”
Despite his disability, Jack lives every day to the fullest, like any cat, and he is happy to do so.
