Currently there are over 500 dog breeds. Accordingly, you can choose a dog suitable for almost any person. You just need to formulate what exactly you need, and the breed will be found. And in order to formulate – you need to ask yourself a few questions and answer them extremely honestly.
1. Why do you need a dog?
What are you going to do with it exactly? Clearly, if you are planning to attend parties with a cute dog in your arms, the Saint Bernard is not for you (it is too heavy). Again, you shouldn’t expect a Toy Terrier or Chihuahua to guard a private home (they will of course try to guard, protect and bite, but there would be plenty of intruders who won’t be afraid of them.). In general, for each type of activity there is its own group of dog breeds – decide why you need a dog – the range of breeds will be significantly reduced.
2. Your physical capabilities
If you are a strong person, you can get yourself any dog, no matter how big or small. And if not? In addition, adult strong people often do not have enough time to deal with a dog – so consider the physical strength of your family members (fragile women and small children).
3. The size of the dog
Note that some small dogs take up much more space than large ones.
Also note that although small dogs eat less, they are more capricious. But, of course, if you are not very rich, it is better to limit yourself to a small or medium dog.
4. The quality of the coat / wool
If you like working with wool (maybe you are a professional groomer or a hairdresser by vocation) – look for a long-haired breed. And it looks beautiful, spectacular and you will comb the wool (if you find a person who can spin, you will have things from your own dog). And wool throughout the apartment and long-haired and short-haired breeds is distributed the same, only to remove small, spiny short hair is more difficult than long.
5. And, finally, temperament. Yours and the dog’s
This is really the last criterion, because you cannot speak about the temperament of ALL dogs of the same breed. In every breed there are dogs, good and evil, active and calm, dominant and submissive, easily trained and generally not inclined to obey. We can only talk about some propensity of most dogs of this breed to behave this way and that, but in every dog breed, there are exceptions, and no one guarantees that you will not get it.
When you answer all these questions, you will have literally 2-3-5 dog breeds that are suitable for you. And from 2-3-5 it is already easy to choose, much easier than from 500. And then you will go to a dog show and talk to the owners of the breeds you have chosen …. And finally, decide which one is REALLY YOUR!
And for those who cannot even choose that way, there are many tests on the network that help determine the breed.
