This animal-loving woman helps a homeless dog and discovers that she is also the mother of 8 puppies and takes them into her home.
Kristin Erwin is an animal lover and whenever she gets the chance, she usually supports rescue centers. She recently heard of a homeless dog wandering near a dock in Channelview, Texas, and immediately hopped in her car to pick her up.
Upon arriving at the site, Kristin was moved to see the dog wandering alone along the quays aimlessly. And even though she hadn’t planned to take her home, she knew right away that she couldn’t leave her behind, especially when the little dog kept wagging its tail and rubbing itself between its legs.
The woman gave the dog food and water, and at that time she could see that she was not only very thin, but appeared to be nursing, indicating that her puppies were near.
Woman finds homeless dog and helps her
Kristin immediately decided to search for the little puppies, and thanks to information from a local she met near the pier, she managed to find the whereabouts of eight adorable puppies.
The woman told The Dodo:
“They were hiding in an old, ramshackle, closed restaurant right under the porch. They were only 3 or 4 weeks old. It was December and the temperatures were going to drop soon, and I couldn’t leave them.”
Kristin knew she had to help the mother and her puppies, so she took them in for a month while she found a suitable foster home to help them thrive.
“She must have been exhausted to keep them alive. I felt really, really sad for mum’s strays, so that was especially hard on me.”
The dog named Marla received her vaccinations and all the care she needed when she moved to her new foster home, where they remained until the puppies were old enough to find their forever homes.
With the help of Paddy’s Paws and Misfit Mutts Dog Rescue, Marla and her babies quickly found loving families. And while Kristin says she misses Marla and her puppies, she’s so happy to have been part of their journey to find the families who will love them forever.
