Karen Ethier (55) rescued Louie, an abandoned and lonely Mastiff and Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix from the animal shelter. At that time, he was emaciated and injured, and doctors had already amputated one of his legs. Karen immediately fell in love with the brown dog and gave him a loving home.
Karen tells the Daily Star:
I knew immediately that I wanted to save him. Later, he also saved my life
At one point, Louie started to act strangely. He constantly snuggled up to her chest or nudged her over there. Karen was amazed at her dog’s strange behavior, but actually discovered an unusual lump in his chest.
Have you ever read that there are dogs that can smell cancer cells? “Louie” could have done it – probably unwittingly.
Dog finds breast cancer and saves woman who saved him
After Louie’s unusual behavior, Karen Ethier investigated the matter. She let herself be examined. Her doctor finally made the definitive diagnosis of breast cancer.
Her family doctor gave the 55-year-old a shocking diagnosis: the lump in her breast turned out to be an aggressive form of breast cancer. The doctors immediately removed the tumor and she began chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
Karen added:
He wanted to warn me all the time.
So, the dog probably returned the favor to his owner, as she had saved him before.
Karen has been doing better since then. She is proud of her three-legged friend who saved her life: “Louie is the best dog ever.
Karen adds:
We saved each other
After intensive surgery and chemotherapy and radiation therapy, Karen can smile again today. She is absolutely certain that “Louie” saved her life – just like she did before.
Beautiful story!
