Jimmy the cat has always been very mischievous. In fact, his favorite activity was going out and walking around the neighborhood near his home. Jimmy’s owners were always worried that he liked to play outside, but they thought he already had enough experience to fend for himself. He would sneak through the windows and then meow in front of the door to be let in.

However, on September 13, 2014, Jimmy – 13 years old at the time – did not return.

Sue Zelitsky told The Dodo:

He went out every day but he always came back, except that night.

The cat was lost 2 years ago and is found thanks to a Facebook page

The family was devastated. They put up posters all over the neighborhood, with Zelitsky calling out to him every time he walked his dog. They didn’t want to give up hope, but after a while they assumed he just wouldn’t come back.

Two years later, while Zelitsky was checking Facebook, he came across a photo on the West Milford Animal Shelter Society account.

The woman immediately thought the cat looked a lot like Jimmy. He wrote several messages to the shelter asking for descriptions.

Zelitsky said:

They found him about 10 miles from our house after a snow storm in March and took him to the shelter. After sharing some of Jimmy’s physical attributes with them, I decided to go see this cat.

When she saw him, she immediately knew it was him.

“As soon as we opened the cage, I asked him, ‘Jim, is that you, buddy?’ And he came up to me and headbutted me and I started crying.”

Then Zelitsky went with her husband, and Jimmy also happily greeted him.

Now Jimmy is back home. Even the dog recognized him. Everyone is still in shock that he was found so long after, having lost all hope.
