Jane’s story is one of perseverance, resilience and hope. After being adopted as a puppy in May 2017, Jane was returned to the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana (HSNWLA) by her first foster family in early 2022 due to her discomfort with small dogs in the home. Despite this setback, Jane was determined to find the perfect family for her.
Readjusting to life at the shelter was difficult at first and Jane had to overcome many changes. Despite this, she had an incredible support system that provided her with all the love and comfort she needed.
Volunteers went above and beyond to make sure Jane was safe and happy, taking her on car rides, sleepovers at volunteer houses and hikes outside the shelter.

Despite all the love and care she received from the volunteers, no one seemed interested in adopting Jane.
But what the dog loved the most were his stuffed animals. He collected everyone he found and refused to go anywhere without them, especially with his laziness, which became an inseparable part of his life.
Finally, after a year of waiting, Jane found the perfect home with Sarah and Justin M., who immediately knew Jane was the one for them.
As they left the shelter together, longtime HSNWLA volunteer Sarrah Walton made sure that two of Jane’s favorite items, her stuffed sloth and a sloth blanket, made for her by a shelter volunteer, went with them in the suitcase.
With the couple’s love, affection and care, along with her favorite sloth toy, Jane has blossomed like never before in her new forever home. Since joining her loving family, Jane has done nothing but feel happy and content; it’s like she was always meant to be part of this family.
The HSNWLA staff said a happy goodbye to their beloved dog knowing she finally had what she deserved: true love from people who would accept her for all she was, without judgment or expectations.
This inspiring story illustrates the joy that can be found when deciding not to give up even after facing difficult challenges along the way.
