This 3-month-old Chihuahua named Chewy was found injured and alone in an airport restroom in Las Vegas, Nevada (USA) over the weekend. A handwritten note from a woman was found next to Chewy describing how they fled abuse together. The woman abandons her puppy as she ran away in despair and couldn’t take him with her.
The note said the following:
“Hi! I’m Chewy! My landlord was in an abusive relationship and I wasn’t allowed on the flight. She didn’t want to leave me with all her heart, but she had no other choice. My ex-buddy used to kick my dog when we were fighting and he got a big knot on his head You probably need a vet I love Chewy so much please love take him and take care of him.”
Fortunately, Chewy wasn’t alone for long. A Good Samaritan brought him to Connor and Millie’s Dog Rescue, where Linda Gilliam, President and Founder, learned of his story, announcing that they had found a foster home for the adorable pup after his story sparked ” huge interest.”
She abandons her puppy at an airport with a note
Linda told The Dodo:
โMy heart dropped to its knees. I had no hesitation in accepting her and gave instructions to take her to the emergency room immediately.โ
Chewy is now in foster care and on the road to recovery and a better life.
The whereabouts of the woman forced to abandon Chewy are unknown, but Linda hopes sharing her story will help others with pets in abusive situations.
If it is not possible to escape with a pet, local animal rescue groups can provide care, even through shelters, they can also help find a way to keep the animals company and their owners together in these cases.
Linda said:
“It’s a totally overlooked issue. We also wanted to try to get the message across to Chewy’s mum that she did something brave, that she’s safe and will have a great life.”
