Earlier this year, Wrenn Rescues, an animal shelter in California, USA, took in a litter of kittens who were in dire need of medical attention. The youngest of the litter, Matilda Beans, was in very poor health and was battling an upper respiratory infection.

The other kittens managed to overcome their health issues and got better, but Matilda got sicker and got really critical.

Ashley Kelley, a volunteer at the shelter who specializes in neonatal and special needs kittens, decided to take care of the kitten.

The woman told Love Meow:

“I have intensive care teams at my house, so it was decided that she should come to my house to overcome her illness.”

After a medical examination, it turned out that the kitten suffered from various health problems, including severe pneumonia. Despite the bad news from the vets, the kitten seemed to be clinging on to life with all her might and Ashley wanted to give her a chance.

Over the next few days, the woman worked tirelessly to bring Matilda back to life, providing her with nebulizer treatments, various medications and supportive care.

Matilda Beans seemed to be very grateful for Ashley’s help, so she turned onto her back to rub her belly.

Ashley commented:

“She had a very strong will and wanted to live, so she did. We were told she would be blind, but her (corneal) ulcers have completely disappeared and she can see very well. I am amazed!”

Little Mathilde had to be isolated in a room and spend a lot of time in an incubator throughout her recovery, without knowing anyone.

Realizing how lonely she felt, Ashley decided to place several stuffed toys around her so they could provide some comfort. The adorable kitty delighted in the company of his toys, but quickly chose one of the stuffed animals as his favorite companion.

Ashley added:

“I gave Lamby Beans (a lamb toy) to be her friend, when she was about three weeks old, and she loved it right away. I’ve always slept next to it.”

Although Matilda grew as the days passed, she continued to seek solace and companionship in her trusty stuffed lamb, licking it as if it were her baby. Lamby Beans is Matilda’s closest friend; whenever she can, she wraps her in her arms and combs her hair until she falls into a deep sleep.

Since meeting him, Matilda has shared many moments with her beloved stuffed animal, and it seems she has no intention of getting rid of him. Even when she was ready and healthy to move into another room and meet new friends, she insisted on keeping her stuffed lamb close by.

Ashley said:

“She adores her baby.”

The sweet feline has become a little train out of control, she is always looking for trouble and finds someone to play and have fun with. When it’s time to recharge, Matilda always reaches for her little lamb to snuggle up to for a nap.

Thanks to education, the adorable Matilda managed to reach the weight of two pounds and is on her way to a very promising future. She is a very brave and curious kitten, she is not afraid of dogs or big cats, let alone loud noises, she has even made two great friends.

Ashley added:

“She’s been a perfect friend to Attis and Odahviing (both special needs kittens), keeping them on their toes.”

Although a lot of time has passed, Matilda still loves her faithful friend Lamby and takes him with her wherever she goes.
