Regan is a 4-year-old dog who was frightened and confused at an animal shelter where she was abandoned after her owner died. And here we can see how grateful she felt during the 2.5-hour drive to her new foster home.
Kim Mozena Rezac, founder of Goofy Foot Dog Rescue in Tennessee, wrote on Facebook:
So, this girl’s owner died and she was left homeless. She was in our shelter for a few days and I felt sorry for her so I brought her home.
Although Regan and Kim just met, the pup seemed to understand that she once again had a loyal companion by her side. During their ride in the passenger seat of Kim’s car, Regan insisted on holding the hand of the woman who was leading her to a better life.
Kim, founder of Goofy Foot Dog Rescue and director of animal welfare for the Animal Rescue Corps, was at the shelter to work with dogfight survivors. She spent three days earning Regan’s trust.
A grateful dog holds the hand of the rescuer
It got to the point where Regan was wagging her tail and looking excited when Kim was around, in a way she didn’t do with anyone else. It was then that Kim decided to bring Regan home as an adoptive parent until she could find her own family.
Kim told TODAY:
You could tell she was scared. I would go give her treats, sit with her and talk. Our shelter is beautiful and our volunteers do a great job with the animals. But I hated that she was there so she could snuggle up on a couch at my house.
Regan held Rezac’s hand in the car for the entire 2.5-hour drive to Huntingdon, Tennessee.

I think she felt safe touching someone familiar. She was so nervous and scared at the shelter, but as soon as she jumped into my car, she seemed so grateful.
Kim shot the video of Regan in the car because she was so touched by Regan’s reaction and was trying to bring attention to this adorable little girl who needed a home. And it worked. Over a million views later, Kim has been inundated with inquiries about her adoption.
It took just two days before Kim was able to place Regan in a home with a couple who told her they knew they were “made for her”. For the time being, they are giving him a foster family, but they intend to adopt him if things continue well.

It’s a wonderful situation.
Regan hopes to find a forever home
Kim said she hopes many people will be touched by Regan’s story and that her video will do two important things. The first is to have a plan in place for the animals to be taken care of if something goes wrong.
Regan’s owner was only in his fifties.
kim said:
I’m sure he thought he had a lot more time left, but none of us know that.
The other thing is to consider going to the shelter to adopt a pet. They may not have a viral video, but they will have so much love to give.
She added:
I see dogs that come from the worst situations but turn to people for love and comfort. I see animals that have been horribly mistreated by people but just want the love that people can offer. His ability to recover is incredible. If we could all love like them, the world would be a better place.
